An over century old building is in the process of being torn down in Downtown Martin.

The building is at 247 Lindell Street, or what most people know it as, the old Travel Agency Building.

Inspectors had said the 134 year old building was in need of serious repairs to the outside wall that runs along Oxford Street. The city sectioned off that part of the street as a safety precaution, and told the owners they needed to come up with a plan to repair the building, or tear it down.

At a recent zoning meeting, the owners decided it would be too costly to tear it down, and the process of razing the building was started.

The construction company is currently tearing out sections of the brick, and the larger demolition work will start later in the week.
